Within the framework of the partnership meeting, the Horticulture Partnership made a field visit to the Mokrini blueberry farm in Vojvodina, Serbia.
The company uses organic and precision farming methods, and their first project is a 20-hectare blueberry plantation. The plantation grows American blueberries in high quality peat soils, with computer controlled irrigation and nutrient application to optimise water and nutrient use. Each phase of the work is managed and recorded using modern software. Various agricultural sensors, the weather station, the computer and the pumps help in the decision-making. All the electricity needed to keep the electrically powered equipment running smoothly is generated on site using solar panels.
The visit was very useful, as the participants were able to see a farm where precision methods are used with IT tools, of which there are relatively few in the partner countries.
